KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — E.C. Matthews scored 15 points and Rhode Island stifled Old Dominion 51-39 on Tuesday night.

The Rams (6-3) held the Monarchs (5-3) to a season-low for points for a game and a half as Rhode Island led 31-17 at the break.

Cyril Langevine had four blocks and Stanford Robinson a career-high five steals for Rhode Island.

Old Dominion made 7 of 24 shots in each half, missed all six of its 3-pointers and only made half of its 22 free throws.

But Rhode Island never broke it open. In the second half the Rams were just 4 of 21 from the field and finished 13 of 28 from the foul line with 15 turnovers. They scored just four points in the first eight minutes of the second half, finishing with a season-low for points, also.

Brandan Stith had 14 points and 13 rebounds for Rhode Island.
