A local Santa

Roger W.

“I am a real-bearded Santa, and I oftentimes cruise State Street as Santa on my motorcycle. I'm usually in Orem or American Fork spreading smiles and cheer. My whole purpose is to make people smile, and it works very well. My Harley is red with pictures of me painted on the gas tank. … Sometimes I also just stop at the entrance to a busy store and wish everyone a Merry Christmas, offering to let them take pictures if they want. I especially enjoy having children with their parents stop for conversation and pictures.”

A happy birthday

Dawn L.

“I work at a children’s theater where kids ages 6 to 18 perform junior versions of musicals. This year, a performance weekend fell on my birthday. Working with 60 teenagers for 10 hours on a Saturday is exhausting and probably not everyone’s dream birthday celebration, but watching these kids be successful in something they've worked so hard to accomplish was one of the most rewarding birthday experiences I've ever had.

“There are many jokes about teenagers being irresponsible or frustrating, but teens can also do amazing things. I feel blessed to be able to see that side of them at my job.”
