UNDATED (AP) — Experts are predicting this will be the busiest Thanksgiving travel period in almost a decade. Almost 49 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more between today and Sunday. According to AAA, the spike in travel is due to the improving economy and lower gas prices.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump is calling for unity in a Thanksgiving address posted on social media. In the message released today, Trump says the nation has just finished a "long and bruising" campaign and that "tensions don't just heal overnight." Trump says he is praying that on Thanksgiving the country will "begin to heal our divisions and move forward strengthened by shared purpose." He didn't detail any of his plans in the holiday address.
NEW YORK (AP) — Online advertising exchange AppNexus has cut off Breitbart News, the ultraconservative website that has served as a platform for the white nationalist movement. AppNexus, the second largest web marketplace, cites its policy against hate speech. It's unclear how much this would hurt Breitbart. The site's former CEO is Stephen Bannon, now a senior counselor to President-elect Donald Trump.
DETROIT (AP) — A Wayne State University police officer has died after being shot in the head while on patrol last night near the school's campus in Detroit. Officer Collin Rose was shot after radioing in that he was about to speak to someone about possible thefts from vehicles in the area. A suspect was arrested but has not been charged.
NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge in Cincinnati has ordered pilots for a cargo airline that delivers Amazon packages to go back to work. The judge said that holiday shoppers expect to receive their packages on time, so it's in the public's interest to end the strike. About 250 pilots for ABX Air went on strike early yesterday in a dispute over working conditions and time off. Dozens of flights and more than 1 million pounds of cargo were held up.
