(KSL News) -- Fire forced people in a Herriman neighborhood to evacuate this afternoon. Officials believe dry lightning started the wildfire.

The fire burned through at least five acres above the High Country Estates area. A small number of homes on the west side of the subdivision were evacuated.

Air tankers dropped flame retardant on the fire, while crews fought it on the ground. They kept it from reaching any homes.

Crews are keeping an eye on the hillside tonight, to make sure there are no flare-ups.

Fire danger is high right now. Grass and small vegetation burned quickly.

Larry Beagley, Herriman Resident: "We just saw the lightning and the fire starting, and then the smoke. Then helicopters coming and dropping retardant on it."

Melissa Dehaan, Herriman Resident: "Just a small fire at first, like a camp fire, and then the wind picked it up and it started blowing huge."

Multiple agencies, including the BLM and Unified Fire Authority responded to the fire.
