PROVO — A woman is dead and a man was hospitalized with “significant injuries” after two vehicles collided early Sunday morning, police said.
Emergency crews responded to a report of the crash near 5600 N. University Ave. at approximately 1:54 a.m., according to Provo police Sgt. Robert Patrick.
Patrick said a Jeep Liberty was traveling northbound on University Ave. when it drifted into the southbound lane and struck a Chevy Malibu traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Malibu, a 54-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not immediately released.
The driver of the Liberty, a 26-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital. His condition was not released.
Patrick said police believe speed may have factored in the crash, but the crash remains under investigation.
“Witnesses stated that a vehicle was traveling northbound at excessive speeds,” Provo police wrote in a news release.
