UNDATED (AP) — Baseball's MVP awards are being handed out this evening. In the National League the three finalists are Kris Bryant of the Cubs, Daniel Murphy of the Nationals and Corey Seager of the Dodgers. The American League finalists are Mike Trout of the Angels, Jose Altuve (al-TOO'-vay) of the Astros and Mookie Betts of the Red Sox.
CHARLOTTE (AP) —The NFL game this evening has the Saints playing host to the Panthers. Carolina is of course the defending NFC champ, but the Panthers are mired in a miserable 3-6 season. The Saints, who won the first meeting of the teams last month, are 4-5.
UNDATED (AP) — In college football tonight third-ranked Louisville is in Houston to face the Cougars. The Cardinals are led by Heisman Trophy favorite Lamar Jackson, who is enjoying a great season at quarterback. The Cards are 9-1 on the season and still fighting for a spot in the playoffs.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Villanova, the defending national champion in men's basketball, had a tough time with Western Michigan. In the end the third-ranked Wildcats prevailed with a 76-65 win over the Broncos. 'Nova will face Wake Forest or UTEP on Friday for a spot in Sunday's championship.
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Red Wings have learned that forward Darren Helm will miss at least six weeks with a dislocated shoulder. He was hurt in the third period of Tuesday's loss to Tampa Bay. Helm has seven points in 17 games for the Wings this season.
