A Salt Lake City councilman tried to help someone in need but ended up getting hit in the face. He tried to break up a knife fight.

Councilman hit while trying to break up fight

Councilman Luke Garrott says his neighbor was fighting with another man who had a knife. They moved through several yards and into the street near 700 South and 500 East. Garrott says he stepped in to try to calm things down, when his neighbor punched him in the face twice. The man with the knife ran, and officers arrested the neighbor. In his anger, the neighbor reportedly also kicked a jail officer. Councilman Garrott was not seriously injured. He says he doesn't regret stepping in because he stopped the men from harming each other.
