SALT LAKE CITY — The holidays are coming, and with that permits will start being issued by the U.S. Forest Service to legally cut down trees from Utah national forests this season.
Some, such as Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and Fishlake National Park, begin this week. Other national forests in Utah will begin the sale later this month.
Some of the national forests are participating in the Every Kid in a Park initiative, which will provide families of fourth-graders a free tree with the proper paperwork.
Here are the forests issuing permits for Christmas trees:
Fishlake National Forest
Christmas tree permits are on sale currently in some locations and will go on sale on Nov. 14 in other locations. Purchases must be made in person and permits must be with the permit holder at all times, including transport of the tree. All species of trees, aside from ponderosa pine, will be allowed to be cut. In Beaver, blue spruce trees will not be allowed to be cut.
The cost of the permit is $10.
More information, including suggested areas to cut or places where cutting is off-limits, can be found here or by calling 435-896-9233.
