LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct 10, 2016--The Coalition to Preserve L.A., the burgeoning movement that is fighting to reform L.A.’s broken and rigged development and planning system through its reform measure on the March 2017 ballot — the Neighborhood Integrity Initiative — released the following statement today from Jill Stewart, Campaign Director for the Neighborhood Integrity Initiative:

"The Coalition to Preserve LA is deeply disappointed in City Hall's bait-and-switch proposal that brings almost no homeless housing to city-owned land. Back in August, City Hall promised a major 'homeless housing construction' effort on city land citywide.

Instead, we find out today that was a sham -- very little of this housing is promised to go to the homeless, and incredibly, luxury housing is now being considered on this city land.

Instead of actual homeless housing, we instead get this meaningless 'promise' from city officials -- that they will instead charge luxury housing developers a 'fee' for the right to take over public land, and that this 'fee' will go to homeless housing. What a terrible disappointment. Build homeless housing and quit trying to cut backroom deals with luxury housing developers, who win every time.

When will City Hall learn that it is disastrously bad at squeezing money out of developers to fix the very problems these developers create? LA got robbed of its promised parks, and developers made a killing. Now City Hall is proposing to do it again, using the promise of homeless housing."
