OGDEN — A man is in jail on suspicion of child abuse homicide after his infant daughter was found not breathing and later died.

According to a statement from Ogden police, on Oct. 2 emergency workers responded to a report of an 8-week-old child not breathing at an apartment on the 1400 block of Brinker Ave. They met the mother and child near the 2300 block of Harrison Ave. as the mother was rushing her daughter to the hospital.

The child, Avery Hatton, was taken to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, but "efforts to save Avery weren’t successful," the police statement said.

Avery's father, Michael Lee Hatton, was arrested Friday and booked into the Weber County Jail, police said. The Standard Examiner reports the 25-year-old is being held on $1 million bail.

Details on Avery's injuries were not immediately available.
