Samantha Hayes reportingAfter the terrorist attacks of 9/11, airport security was never the same. Each incident seems to add yet another check-in line. Some might say it also adds another inconvenience.
We take off our shoes and stand in long lines. And at least for now, you either have to check your toiletries or leave them at the door. You can no longer carry liquids in your carry bags.
Is it too much yet?
500 Utahns answered questions in an exclusive Survey USA Poll. Respondents were asked about their feelings regarding security and travel plans today.
Prohibiting liquids like beverages, shampoo, perfume, and shaving crème
- 19% goes too far
- 16% does not go far enough
- 63 percent is just about right
Sixty-three percent believe prohibiting those items like beverages, shampoo, perfume and shaving cream on carry ons is just about right. Sixteen percent say it doesn't go far enough, with19 percent saying it goes too far.
How safe do you feel flying on a Commercial Airline?
- 33% Very Safe
- 47% somewhat safe
- 14% not very safe
- 5% not safe at all
The majority feel its safe to fly. Thirty-three percent say they feel very safe.
Would you keep or change plans to travel by air in the next three months?
- 82% keep
- 15% change
What about that upcoming vacation- or family visit? Does today's terrorist scare change those plans? Eight-two percent said no way, they are still going out of town.
How seriously do you take elevated warnings on terror risks?
- 50% very seriously
- 36% somewhat seriously
- 10% not very seriously
- 5% not at all seriously
What happened today elevated the terror risk warning. Half of those questioned in our poll take that warning very seriously.
Do you think all carry on baggage should be prohibited?
- 24% yes
- 70% no
So what might the next step be in security? If you could not take carry on baggage at all -if it was prohibited - how would you feel? This has not happened, but we wanted to see how people felt about it. Twenty-four percent say it should be prohibited, with 70 percent saying no.
