MIDVALE — A West Jordan woman who pleaded guilty in a fatal hit-and-run case this summer was sentenced Friday to up to five years in the Utah State Prison.
Mika Lindquist, 32, will be behind bars for driving away after hitting and killing 56-year-old Ronald Charles Renfro on Sept. 24, 2015 in Midvale.
Renfro was crossing 7200 South at 50 West at the time.
Lindquist told police the sun had obstructed her vision, causing her to hit Renfro. She got out of her vehicle to see what she hit, then drove away when she realized it was a person, court documents state.
On July 15, Lindquist pleaded guilty in 3rd District Court to leaving the scene of an accident, a third-degree felony, as well as theft pursuant to a rental agreement, a second-degree felony that was reduced to a class A misdemeanor. A third-degree felony charge against her for obstructing justice was dropped.
Lindquist's prison sentences entail zero to five years for leaving the scene of an accident and up to one year for the rental agreement offense, but those will be served concurrently.
Lindquist's sentence from a drug case filed against her in March 2015 was also handed down Friday; the punishment is up to one year in prison and will likewise be served concurrently with the other two sentences.
