HOOPER, Weber County — The Weber County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman in connection with the theft of items and packages delivered to residents’ porches.
Augustina Hinton, 34, of Roy, was booked into the Weber County Jail in connection with theft of mail and two charges of theft.
Police began receiving calls reporting UPS packages being stolen from residents’ porches around the areas of Roy and Hooper. A small fridge was also stolen from underneath a carport, police said.
Video surveillance from multiple homes indicated that a woman had stolen the packages and small fridge, police confirmed. She was also seen unscrewing a blue police light from a porch light and taking it in one of the surveillance videos.
Police were able to identify Hinton after viewing the surveillance footage and receiving tips from citizens. She was arrested a short distance from her home Wednesday when detectives spotted her in her vehicle, police said.
Detectives are still investigating other cases and Hinton may receive more charges, police said, as more packages might have been stolen.
