Sandra Yi and Tonya Papanikolas ReportingPolice have identified the woman found dead in a freezer, Monday. Her son is now a primary suspect.
Police have a lot of questions for the victim's 18-year old son who is still missing. They say it was his mother Laura, who was found dead in a freezer, in their basement. They identified her by her picture, jewelry and her hair.
She was shot in the head in her bed and then dragged to the freezer.
Lt. Randy Pickett, Bountiful Police Dept.: "Now how far away the freezer was from the bedroom, I don't know. There were just drag marks in blood over to the freezer."
The victim's son hasn't been seen since police discovered the woman's body Monday. Police found a receipt for assault rifle magazines and ammunition, but aren't sure when they were purchased. Police believe Jeremy is armed, possibly with a semi-automatic gun and a 22 caliber rifle with some 40 rounds. They say he is dangerous and suicidal.
Police believe he is driving the car he and his mom shared, a 2001 or 2002 blue Toyota Corolla, with temporary plate R61363.
The Hauks have family in Montana and Washington states, but family members there say they have not heard from Jeremy.
Police are still awaiting final word, on cause of death. They are now focusing on where Jeremy might be, trying to track down check and credit card records. They are also building a profile of the teen for answers on why he would do something like this.
Relatives say Laura Hauck was the sweetest woman anyone could know.
Annie Call/ Laura Hauck's Niece: "Just really loving. Would do anything for anybody. Quiet. Didn't ask for much, but just gave everything she could."
Her family says she was especially giving with her son Jeremy.
Brian Garlock/ Laura Hauck's Nephew: "He was her life, and she did everything she could for him. I mean, supported him, helped him."
But now police believe Jeremy is on the run after killing his mother and leaving her body in a freezer.
John Garlock/Laura Hauck's Nephew: "This is the worst thing that could ever happen." "I still can't comprehend it. I don't understand it. It still doesn't make any sense."
Jeremy's cousins say he was a hard person to get to know. Not because he was shy, but because he was disinterested.
John Garlock: "There was kind of a sense of, 'I don't need to talk to you.'"
They say they don't know if he was capable of the crime.
Brian Garlock: "I don't know that anybody ever got to know him well enough to even answer that question."
A home video of a family wedding in June shows Jeremy next to his mother. He just smiles or even smirks at the camera while his mother attends to him.
John Garlock: "I never got the impression that he treated her as well as she deserved."
Brian Garlock: "You never saw him talking to her. You saw her trying to get something out of him or joke with him. And he gave very little back."
The family says they hope police find Jeremy so they can find out why this happened. In the meantime, they miss their aunt terribly.
Annie Call: "There's a hole there that nobody can fill."
