WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump has called for law and order and making an appeal to black voters. Trump is speaking tonight in suburban Milwaukee, not far from where racial tensions have spilled over in Milwaukee following unrest over a weekend fatal police shooting. At a rally in West Bend, Trump said rival Hillary Clinton is "against the police." Speaking from a prepared text, Trump made an appeal to African-Americans, saying they have been betrayed by Democratic policies.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Taylor Swift is donating $1 million to Louisiana flood relief after torrential rains caused massive flooding in the state and killed at least 11 people. Swift told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Louisiana residents graciously welcomed her when she kicked off the U.S. dates of her "1989 World Tour" in the state last year.
SACRAMENTO (AP) — A fire official in California's San Bernardino County says more than 82,000 people have been told to evacuate from mountain communities threatened by a powerful wildfire east of Los Angeles. The blaze, near Cajon (kuh-HOHN') Pass has seen massive growth in the eight hours since it broke out hours earlier. Meanwhile, fire crews have gained even more ground against on a Northern California wildfire that has destroyed 175 homes, businesses and other structures and charred nearly 7 square miles.
NEW YORK (AP) — The man accused of fatally shooting an imam and his friend as they left a New York City mosque is being held without bail. Oscar Morel appeared in court at his arraignment this afternoon in Queens. His attorney says Morel denies the allegations. Prosecutors called the daytime shooting an "assassination." Investigators are still trying to determine a motive. They have not ruled out that it could have been a hate crime.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Simone Biles has put the finishing touches on one of the greatest Olympics by a gymnast ever. The 19-year-old American captured her fourth gold of the games in Rio with a show stopping performance in the floor exercise. She also has a team gold for the "Final Five" as well as individual golds in the all-around and vault. And she has a bronze on balance beam. Her five medals tie the most for an American woman in a single Olympics and her four golds tie an Olympic record shared by three others.
