CEDAR CITY — A 43-year-old southern Utah man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for shooting an Iron County sheriff's deputy in December 2013.
Grant Biedermann, of Kanarraville, originally was charged with two counts of aggravated attempted murder in the shooting of Deputy Kellen Hudson at a local campground where Biedermann was reported to be suicidal.
A jury convicted him in June of two lesser counts of aggravated assault.
The (St. George) Spectrum reports Fifth District Judge James Shumate sentenced Biedermann on Friday to two consecutive terms of 0-5 years in the Utah State Prison with credit for time served. He also must serve an additional six months in the Iron County Jail for one count of carrying a dangerous weapon under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Hudson was treated for a gunshot wound to the hip.
