NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal judge has delayed sentencing until Aug. 25 for bounce musician Big Freedia, who pleaded guilty in March to the theft of federal Section 8 housing voucher funds.
The New Orleans Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/2aPDQO6 ) that U.S. District Judge Lance Africk cited an unspecified court conflict in delaying the 38-year-old artist's sentencing, originally scheduled for Thursday.
Born Freddie Ross Jr., Big Freedia pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $35,000 in federal funds and faces a maximum 10-year sentence and $250,000 fine. Last month, Africk ordered her to a halfway house after drug tests in April and May proved positive for marijuana and for both marijuana and methamphetamine use in June.
Court records show a revised federal probation report with a recommended sentence was filed Thursday. That document is under seal.
