SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Salt Lake police officer is expected to recover after accidentally shooting himself in the foot.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2aQVXCC) that the incident happened after a police chase of a suspicious vehicle early Saturday.
Lt. Mike Ross says there were reports of shots fired around 4:30 a.m.
Officers at the scene got a vehicle description and later spotted it.
A chase ensued with the suspect crashing the vehicle and then fleeing on foot.
According to Ross, the injured officer was holding a rifle while officers were keeping the suspect contained.
That is when the firearm somehow discharged, hitting the officer in the foot.
The officer, who Ross did not identify, was taken to a hospital and is OK.
