(KSL News) -- A Sunday drive up Butterfield Canyon took a dangerous turn near Coppermine Overlook.
The driver says he lost control coming around a switch back. The truck rolled about a half-mile into a ravine.
The driver was in pretty bad shape, but managed to get out and climb back to the road. He hitched a ride to a gas station and called for help, saying his friend was trapped inside the truck.
Crews spotted the truck about an hour later.
The driver was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The passenger only suffered a broken leg.
Officials are investigating whether alcohol was a factor.
