THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Nicholls State has named women's basketball coach DoBee Plaisance as the university's interim athletic director.

University President Dr. Bruce Murphy, in a news release Wednesday, said Plaisance will take over immediately, replacing Rob Bernardi who resigned Friday.

Bernardi will stay on to assist in the transition until Sept. 1.

Plaisance is in her ninth year as coach of the women's basketball program, leading them to three straight winning seasons and five consecutive appearances in the Southland Conference Tournament. In 2011, she was named senior woman administrator, making her the highest ranking female in the Nicholls Athletic Director.

Murphy says the university is fortunate to have someone with Plaisance's connections and experience to step in and ensure that the program carries on following Bernardi's resignation.
