(KSL News) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says it has seen a rise in the number of people looking for help due to the sagging economy.

The Deseret News reports the number of people going to Welfare Square looking for help finding employment has risen to 20 to 25 each day, up from 15 just a year ago. The number of people requesting food storage containers to stock up for emergencies is also on the rise.

Managers at Welfare Square say the demand is actually higher than it was in 1999, when people were preparing for possible problems with the Y2K changeover.
