MONACO (AP) — Monaco has signed fullback Djibril Sidibe from Lille on a five-year deal, the third defender to join the club during the transfer window.

The 23-year-old Frenchman can play left back or right back and started his career with Troyes before joining Lille, where he scored seven goals in 96 league games.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said in a statement Saturday that Sidibe's arrival "shows our will to strengthen the quality of our defense."

The Principality club recently signed 21-year-old right back Benjamin Mendy from Marseille and Torino center half Kamil Glik, who helped Poland reach the European Championship quarterfinals.

Monaco finished third in the French league last season, level on points with Lyon and failing to secure an automatic spot in the Champions League.
