HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for Washington County's first hospice house.
The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports (http://bit.ly/29GvkC4) medical officials, elected leaders and members of Hospice of Washington County gathered Thursday at the site of the future Doey's House in Hagerstown.
The long-awaited $5 million, 12-room facility will be built on about 4 acres near Meritus Medical Center. It is expected to open next year.
Former chairwoman of the Hospice of Washington County board Cynthia Perini says the organization serves 270 people a day, most in their homes.
Hospice CEO Eric Klimes says that they'll now be able to the end-of-life-care at the new facility.
Klimes says that $3.3 million already has been raised toward the project, including $350,000 in state money as well as donations from the community.
