MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The president of Minot State University says additional state budget shortfalls could cause layoffs and program cuts at the school.

But Steve Shirley tells KXMC-TV (http://bit.ly/29quLHU ) that any future cuts won't impact tuition prices.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple in May directed agencies and the state's 11 colleges and universities to plan for 10 percent reductions in their budgets over the next two years, an effort to deal with a slowing economy due to depressed oil and crop prices.

Shirley says a committee made up of faculty, staff and students finalized their recommendations for the 10-percent reduction. He says Some of the cost savings will be done through cutting some overtime and travel.
