MAGNA — A man who allegedly brandished a BB gun during a road rage incident Friday was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on possible charges of aggravated assault and reckless driving.
James Laird Hilton was taken into custody after another motorist and passenger traveling westbound on state Route 201 about 5 p.m. Friday told police they had twice been run off the road by a man driving a Dodge Magnum.
According to arrest records, the man later identified as Hilton, pointed a handgun at the motorist and passenger, telling them he would have killed them had he pulled the trigger.
Officers pulled over Hilton's vehicle at about 3130 S. 8400 West. As he was taken into custody, Hilton told officers the gun was "only a BB gun," according to the arrest record. Officers later confirmed the weapon was a BB gun.
"Hilton said he did not point the gun and it was a coincidence," the arrest report said.
