BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Romanian authorities say two people have died after a small plane crashed in central Romania.
Local government official Ciprian Bancila said a 57-year-old woman was found dead in the plane wreckage after it crashed at midday Saturday near a village in the Transylvania region and burst into flames.
Adriana Palaghiea, an ambulance spokeswoman, said the pilot, a 66-year-old Italian man, was taken by helicopter to a hospital, suffering from burns, and died there later. Nobody else was on board.
The plane, a Tecnam, which is registered in Italy, was flying from western to central Romania and came down near the village of Persani.
Prosecutors are investigating the incident.
