OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Preparing for a natural disaster can take just one duffel bag.

Students in the Ogden School District will pack a duffel bag full of supplies, food and equipment to sustain them during an earthquake, severe snowstorm or other emergency.

Administrators say students will start preparing a duffel bag for each elementary-school classroom, then expand the project to every classroom in the district.

Officials say it's important because in many cases both parents in a household work and students can't be immediately sent home.

The Smith & Edwards department store is helping choose the most essential items for each duffel bag.
