ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia freshman defensive back Chad Clay has been dismissed from the football team following his second arrest in less than three months.
Coach Kirby Smart announced the "very disappointing" news of Clay's dismissal in a news release on Wednesday night following Clay's arrest for the theft of headphones from another student on campus.
Clay was released from the Athens-Clarke County jail on $1,500 bond on Wednesday night, according to the jail's website.
Clay and another Georgia freshman, defensive lineman Julian Rochester, were arrested April 11 on charges of possessing a BB gun in a school zone and second-degree criminal damage to a campus dorm. The two enrolled early for spring practice.
