CHICAGO (AP) — Lil Rel Howery of NBC's "The Carmichael Show" has been arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge.

The 36-year-old Chicago comedian was arrested Sunday night after a collision involving a car in which he was riding. Chicago police say that when the other driver called 911, Howery punched him in the face.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/28IUGdJ ) that Howery was released early Monday on $1,500 bond.

Police say the man who was punched was treated at the scene for a minor abrasion. The driver of the vehicle Howery had been riding in drove away, leaving him behind.

Howery plays the character Bobby Carmichael on "The Carmichael Show." An NBC publicist said the network had no comment.
