PROVO — Creating fantasy films is a labor of love for two Provo filmmakers and their efforts appear to be paying off.

A Kickstarter campaign designed to sell pre-orders of the fifth installment of Arrowstream Entertainment’s Mythica movie series has brought in well over $100,000 so far. Kynan Griffin, one of the film studio’s founders, said Kickstarter has been a wonderful tool to engage with fans.

“These are the most loyal and hardcore of fans,” he wrote in an email. “Most of them have been there since the beginning, since ‘Mythica 1: A Quest for Heroes.’ Now we are on Mythica 5, and the fan base keeps growing. ... It's a great community of people who love the genre and are avid supporters of independent film.”

The five Mythica films follow a wizard and her team, which includes familiar faces like Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor on “Game of Thrones,” and Kevin Sorbo, of the 1990s Hercules TV series.

Three of the full-length Mythica movies have been released so far, with the fourth installment coming out in September and the fifth slated for November. Filming for ‘Mythica 5: The Godslayer’ has been completed and the team is currently working on post-production efforts.

“It's getting really close to being done, and we've really put a lot of love and effort into this final installment of the series,” Griffin wrote. “It is definitely the best Mythica film yet, and also the best film we have ever made. So we are really proud of it, and are excited to share it with the world.”

Outside of Kickstarter, the Mythica films can be purchased at Wal-Mart. Griffin said the studio is in talks with Costco to offer a Christmas set. ‘Mythica 5' will also be released on cable video on demand and platforms like iTunes and Google Play.

While the Mythica series is wrapping up, Arrowstream Entertainment is already working on its next fantasy project — a TV series called “The Outpost,” which is being filmed in Utah in partnership with the Utah Film Commission.

Griffin said that while fantasy is a hugely popular genre, there aren’t many options on TV.

“While we are big fans of ‘Game of Thrones,’ and have tremendous admiration for the stunning show they have created, we really wanted to make something that all fantasy fans could enjoy, regardless of age,” he wrote. “So, Outpost is a lighter, family adventure, but still packed with action, magic, creatures, etc.”
