LAS VEGAS (AP) — Two children were hospitalized with critical injuries and a driver was jailed on felony hit-and-run charges after a car ran a red light at a northwest Las Vegas intersection, hit another car, spun onto a sidewalk and struck five pedestrians, police said Monday.
A 6-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy were taken to the University Medical Center trauma center after they were struck by the sedan Saturday night, Officer Michael Rodriguez said.
A 7-year-old boy and two women, ages 64 and 39, were also struck on the sidewalk, but police said they received less serious injuries.
The 19-year-old driver of a second car that was struck by the sedan and his 18-year-old passenger were also treated for minor injuries.
Police found a bumper from the sedan at the scene and arrested Diego Morales-Aquino, 50, a short time later at a nearby apartment complex.
Records showed that Morales-Aquino was being held at the Clark County jail pending an initial court appearance on charges that could get him decades in prison. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
