CAIRNS, Australia — An Australian mother said that when her 1-year-old child stopped breathing, using Apple’s Siri may have helped save her daughter’s life.
Stacey Gleeson dropped her iPhone 6s while rushing to her daughter’s side after a baby monitor reported Giana had stopped breathing, according to BBC news. Thinking quickly, she called to Siri and asked the phone to call for an ambulance.
"It might have given the precious moments Stacey needed to revive Giana,” father Nic Gleeson told Australia’s News 7.
While the phone connected with emergency personnel, the mother was able to administer CPR. She told News 7 that “before I knew it, the ambulance was on its way and Giana was breathing again.”
Stacey Gleeson told the BBC that the incident happened in March, but she recently reached out to Apple to say thank you and the company in turn contacted 7 News. She recommended everyone with an iPhone activate Siri so it is ready for emergency situations.
"I had played around with Siri; I thought it was a fun feature,” she told BBC. “Now I have that feature turned on all the time and it will never be turned off again."
Giana has reportedly made a full recovery. At the time she stopped breathing, she had a chest infection and bronchiolitis.
