DRAPER, Utah (AP) -- William John Aldrich Green, an 18-year-old son of imprisoned polygamist Tom Green, was arrested Wednesday for investigation of two counts of rape of a child for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old girl he met on the Internet, Draper police said.
They met through a social networking Web site, Sgt. Gerald Allred said. Some sexual encounters allegedly occurred and, because the girl is under 14, the case is investigated as rape of a child, Allred said.
William Green was booked into the Salt Lake County jail.
Tom Green, 56, one of Utah's best known polygamists, was convicted in 2001 of bigamy for having five wives and child rape for having sex with his first wife, Linda Kunz, when she was 13 years old in 1986. He is scheduled for parole next year.
Allred said Wednesday's arrest had no apparent connection to the elder Green and polygamy.
"He happens to be the son of Tom Green. There's no obvious relationship that this is some kind of polygamist ideology," Allred said. "It's more of an Internet problem -- older guys meeting younger girls."
