OREM — A 28-year-old man who allegedly used a Taser on several friends and family members surrendered to police following a standoff with a SWAT team Sunday.
The incident began about 2:30 p.m. at a residence, 666 East 1600 South, when Victor Garcia, of Orem, began assaulting people, said Orem Police Lt. Craig Martinez. He did not know Sunday what prompted the alleged assaults.
By the time police arrived, Garcia had left and walked to a nearby friend's house, Martinez said. The friend initially denied Garcia was inside, but later admitted it after investigators told her witnesses saw him go in, he said.
A SWAT team surrounded the house and attempted to make contact with Garcia. They eventually entered the garage and sent a robot inside the main house about 7 p.m., Martinez said. At that point, Garcia surrendered without further incident.
Martinez said he was arrested and would be booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of several charges, including assault.

No one at the first residence was seriously injured, he said.
