PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Portland, Maine, will decide whether to sign off on a 2 percent tax increase that is tied to the school district's annual budget proposal.
The Portland Public School's $103.6 million budget proposal is up for a vote on Tuesday. The associated tax increase would add $42 to the property tax bill of the owner of a home assessed at $200,000.
City officials have said the budget proposal includes a decrease of about $1.4 million in state education aid. The spending plan would increase expenditures by a little less than one percent.
