SALT LAKE CITY — A man who allegedly shot a would-be burglar and then continued shooting at him as he tried to drive away has been charged.

Glen Decker, 51, was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault and three counts of illegally discharging a firearm, all third-degree felonies.

On April 27, Decker and his wife, who are caretakers of the vacant home of the wife's elderly mother, stayed at the house because of a recent burglary to see if the burglars would return.

That night, a man and woman entered the house through a back door. Decker and his wife, each armed with a revolver, confronted them, according to charging documents. They ordered the couple to "'stop' or they would be shot," according to court documents.

The woman complied. But the man pushed past Decker to get to the door. As the man was backing out of the door, Decker shot him once, charges state.

After the man got into his car and started to drive away, Decker shot at him three more times, according to the charges.

As of Friday, neither the man nor the woman had been charged in connection with the alleged burglary.
