(KSL News) If you need to travel Highway 6 near Helper this morning, there's good news: It's open.
Heavy rains caused a mess yesterday. Mud and debris covered the road and closed about 10 miles of the road southeast of Soldier Summit. The portion of Highway 6 between eastern Utah and the Wasatch Front was completely shut down for more than 10 hours.
Hundreds of frustrated drivers waited. A truck driver named Eric said, "I started at 4:30 this morning. I got up here about 2:30 and they kept telling us four hours, four hours. Now it's been about eight hours. But there's nothing you can do."
Crews spent the night sweeping and spraying the mud and rocks off the highway to make it safe again.
The road reopened around midnight.
