GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) — Residents of a rural northern Nevada town are volunteering in the first public-private partnership of its kind providing water for wild horses and shooting the mares with contraceptive darts to help shrink the size of the herd. Leaders of the Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates in Gardnerville say their goal is to keep the mustangs off neighborhood lawns and out of government holding pens.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Police say a scooter rider was killed and a motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run following a weekend crash in North Las Vegas. Officer Ann Cavaricci says it appears the moped and a Chevrolet Tahoe collided late Sunday while both were heading west on Lake Mead Boulevard. Police say a witness directed officers to find the alleged driver, 20-year-old Christian Potter, in a nearby discount store parking lot.

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A 34-year-old man accused of killing his estranged wife in June 2011 and fleeing to Mexico has pleaded not guilty to a felony murder charge in Nevada state court. A trial date wasn't immediately set during Eduardo Estrada-Puentes' appearance Monday before Elko County District Court Judge Al Kacin.

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Authorities have identified a Sparks couple killed in a weekend crash involving a 35-year-old man jailed on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving under the influence. The Nevada Highway Patrol says 77-year-old Mario Guansing and 74-year-old Erlinda Guansing died when the car they were in was hit from behind late Saturday by a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Mario Cortez of Sparks.
