(KSL News) Cooperation between citizens and law enforcement agencies led to the arrest this evening of a suspected car thief.
The owner of a pickup truck reported it stolen from outside his shop last night. Today, the man's nephew spotted the truck and called his uncle. The uncle, Paul Yocum, called 911 as he hurried toward where the truck had last been seen. Both Midvale police and Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputies joined him.
"I happened to catch him on Main Street, and I followed him until this nice officer here went in front of me and got him," Yocum said.
After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested the man.
Deputy Mike Naylor, with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department, said, "From the foot pursuit, I think he's not in very good physical condition, so we were able to take him into custody safely."
The suspect faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and also has several outstanding warrants. Police did not release his name.
