LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas Sands Corp. is formalizing the role of casino mogul Sheldon Adelson's son-in-law as company chief financial officer. Adelson says Patrick Dumont has been promoted from senior vice president of finance and strategy. He replaces Kenneth Kay, who last year became chief financial officer of MGM Holdings Inc. Dumont has been credited with engineering the purchase last year of the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper by the Adelson family.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas officials say the shuttered Riviera is so large that its towers will need to be brought down in two separate implosions. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and its contracted demolitions experts say they are planning for the hotel's towers to come down in separate months. The first implosion is planned for June.
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada city has banned camping along the Truckee River. KTVN-TV reports that Sparks City Council has outlawed campsites within 350 feet of the river inside city limits. City Manager Steve Driscoll says there are nearly 15 homeless encampment sites along the river. Driscoll says the city will offer services that can help those people find a better place to stay.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada gold miner intends to continue working underground despite winning more than $12.5 million. The Elko Daily Free Press reports that 64-year-old Efren Aguirre of Elko hit the megabucks jackpot at the Gold Dust West Casino. He has worked at Newmont Mining Corp.'s Leeville for 16 years and says he loves his job as rock breaker operator.
