POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Vassar College President Catharine Hill will step down when her term ends in June 2017 after 11 years leading the school.

Vassar's board of trustees made the announcement Tuesday. The board praised Hill for increasing student diversity and for overseeing improvements on the Hudson Valley campus, including the upgrade of science facilities.

College officials say they will begin searching for a new president, who would start his or her term in July 2017.

Hill had previously served seven years as the provost of Williams College.
