HOOKSETT, N.H. — Sometimes, even the toughest of superheroes need saving.
Wonder Woman and Captain America do their fair share of rescuing, but when the pair ran out of gas on the way to a little boy’s birthday party, they found themselves in need of another hero, according to Today.
Stranded on the side of a New Hampshire highway, Wonder Woman and Captain America — known in real life as Madison Pais and Ben Dobrusin — started to get desperate when they realized they might not make it to surprise Carter Buchan and his friends at his fourth birthday bash.
Pais worried if she showed up late to the party, she might lose the job she desperately needed, according to Today. She first called her parents for help, but with no luck.
Just when it appeared all hope was lost, New Hampshire State Police trooper Mark Suttmeier swooped in to the rescue. Suttmeier noticed Pais’ car in the breakdown lane and pulled up behind her to make sure things were OK, Today reports.
“I felt more like a damsel in distress and he was the true hero,” Pais told Today.
Suttmeier helped the super duo push their car to a nearby gas station and offered them a ride to the party when they realized they didn’t have any money for gas.
“Instead of giving up, they were doing anything they could to make this boy’s birthday as good as they could and to keep their word,” Suttmeier told Today.
Carter and his friends ran outside the house just in time to see Wonder Woman, Captain America and Suttmeier pull up in the cruiser — lights flashing and all. The three heroes were met with loud cheers as they stepped out of the car.

“The day was perfect,” Venessa Buchan, Carter’s mother, told Today. “A small act of kindness goes a long way. In all reality, three superheroes showed up to his party. Mark saved the day.” As with most superheroes, Suttmeier insisted he was just doing his job. But he did get a kick out of the situation and was happy to do his part to save Carter’s birthday party.
“I guess even superheroes need troopers,” he said.
