WASHINGTON (AP) — Ted Cruz says he stands with his Republican colleagues in the Senate in opposing President Barack Obama's pick for the Supreme Court. The Republican presidential candidate says in a statement that Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland "is exactly the type of Supreme Court nominee you get when you make deals in Washington." He says if Garland were to be confirmed, he would undermine Second Amendment gun rights and legalize late-term abortions. Like other Republicans, Cruz has said he does not want the Senate to vote on any nominee until after the next president is sworn into office.

SALT LAKE CIT (AP) — One candidate doesn't make for much of a debate -- so the faceoff scheduled for Monday in Salt Lake City has been canceled. Donald Trump had said there have been "enough debates," and that he wouldn't be there. John Kasich's spokesman then said the Ohio governor wouldn't debate without Trump.

UNDATED (AP) — Hillary Clinton is featured in Donald Trump's new online ad -- and in it, she's barking like a dog. It's a clip from earlier this year in Nevada, when Clinton was mimicking an ad she had been describing to supporters. The ad is meant to suggest that Clinton is unfit to be president. It also includes footage of Russian President Vladimir Putin taking part in martial arts, and a man who appears to be an Islamic State fighter pointing a gun at the camera.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration is opposing any unilateral declarations of autonomous federal zones in Syria. But it says it would not be against federalism if the Syrian people chose it as part of a negotiated political settlement. A State Department spokesman spelled out Washington's position after the main Syrian Kurdish party said it would soon declare a federal region in the country's north. The party said the region's Kurds, Arabs and Turkmen would all be represented, calling it a model for the rest of the country. Both Turkey and the Syrian government fear that it could lead to a partitioning of Syria.

NEWPORT, Ky. (AP) — Police are seeking help in figuring out who might have been in a car that crashed on a bridge and plunged into the Ohio River. A police statement says anyone who isn't able to account for any friends or family who might have been traveling late yesterday afternoon across the bridge that carries Interstate 275 from Campbell County, Kentucky, to Cincinnati should call the department. Police say 12 vehicles were involved in four separate accidents at rush hour on the bridge, creating a massive pileup. Rising water and fast currents have caused the search of the river to be suspended, possibly through the end of the week.
