OGDEN — A parole fugitive was arrested Friday evening after a two-hour standoff with police in Ogden.
Jeremy Gallegos, 27, of Ogden, surrendered without incident around 7 p.m. after a standoff with SWAT officers in a home near 29th Street and Jackson Avenue, police said.
A fugitive task force was searching for Gallegos about 4:45 p.m. when they spotted him and he ran into a home belonging to his friend's mother, said Ogden Police Lt. Tim Scott.
Multiple people evacuated the home around the time Gallegos entered, Scott said. Adjacent homes were evacuated while the man barricaded himself inside, police said.
Gallegos didn't have any hostages with him, according to the lieutenant. A SWAT negotiator was called to the scene to speak with him.
The Weber County Sheriff's Office, Ogden Police Department and other agencies asked the public earlier this month to be on the lookout for Gallegos after he eluded police officers in Riverdale.
Jackson Avenue and 29th Street were closed in both directions in the immediate vicinity during the standoff, according to Scott.
Gallegos pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder in November 2007, court records show. His criminal history in Utah also includes a 2007 guilty plea to assault by prisoner. He was charged in February with misdemeanor use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
