(KSL News) -- We've looked at the charges Craig Gregerson faces in the death of Destiny Norton, now we would like to offer a bit of perspective on a hard story to tell, and a hard story to understand.
A family lost a little girl to a death of unfathomable depravity. An entire community feels the loss and seeks whatever comfort may come from the prosecution of criminal charges.
The case will play itself out in the justice system, slowly. It will also take time for the horrible details of this crime to fade from our collective memory.
But there are elements of this story we should try and keep fresh -- the compassion and generosity of a community that came together to search, and offer hope; the fierce commitment of police; a moment of extraordinary reconciliation that formed a bridge between people who only hours before found anger and distrust their only bond.
Sometimes it takes the worst of us to bring out the best. Perhaps another five-year old girl said it best while speaking with her father about the case. She said, "I hope Destiny's picture stays up wherever it is so we won't forget her."
