(KSL News) -- A house being remodeled in the Avenues went up in flames Friday morning. Firefighters say the blaze is suspicious.
When firefighters arrived at the house on 2nd Avenue, it was fully engulfed. Parts of the home had already collapsed. Crews took an immediate defensive position, protecting surrounding homes.
Asst. Fire Chief Dennis McKone, Salt Lake City Fire Dept.: "Well, what you've got is an open building that's under renovation. So all the windows are gone. So it doesn't take long for a fire to get moving very quickly and then turn into a large fire."
Despite their efforts, flames jumped to a neighboring home, causing minimal damage to the roof and attic.
Damage is estimated at $500 thousand
Investigators are now on scene looking for the cause.
