NORDIC VALLEY RESORT — The temperatures are slowly rising in Utah, but if you are hankering to get in a few more ski runs before spring, Nordic Valley Resort offers affordable night skiing six days a week for beginners and experts alike.

Located roughly 20 minutes from Ogden, Nordic Valley Resort was opened in 1968 and passed through several owners over the years before it was purchased by Skylinebase LLC in 2014, according to Nordic Valley marketing director Sarah Abney. She said the ski area has a "hometown resort" feel and hasn't changed much since it opened.

The most iconic feature of the resort is its old, one-room barn lodge.

"It literally was an old milking barn," Abney said. "It's awesome. It's so great. It's a historical site, and everybody knows it that has been up to the area. So that's a really fun thing."

The small ski resort offers 140 skiable acres and four chairlifts, and allows snowboarding, ski biking and other winter sports, as long as there is a leash to contain the equipment. And although it's not run by the resort, a tubing hill is also available on the property.

Abney said the resort is most well-known as a great place to learn to ski and snowboard because of its really wide runs on the slope and easy progression to more difficult terrain. The resort is also the training grounds for several world-class alpine skiers. Because of the setup, skiers can get off the chairlift halfway up the mountain and can get in more runs throughout the day, increasing their actual practice time.

"They are not wasting lift time," she said.

Nordic Valley Resort also boasts that it's the "best lit mountain" in the state and offers night skiing six days a week. Abney said their goal is to make skiing affordable for everyone and there are several night skiing deals for families, teachers, EMTs, military members, police and other groups.

While there isn't any lodging available at the resort, there are plenty of options in nearby Ogden. And for dining options, the resort has a cafe that offers a variety of grilled food items in a family-friendly atmosphere.

"We are just very family-friendly," Abney said. "Our customer really is the families, large parties. We are a great resort when you actually want to stay with the people you came with. We are a face-only mountain, so you're not going to get lost. You are able to stay with your party."
