LOGAN CANYON — Saturday at 9 a.m., Smithfield resident Paul Sorenson, with the help of about 25 others, gathered in Logan Canyon to build the biggest snowman yet during their annual tradition.

Standing at 20 feet tall and 36 feet wide, the giant snowman took about six hours to complete.

Sorenson said the tradition started about seven years ago. He and a friend built a regular snowman on his parents snowmobile trailer while they were gone snowmobiling in Logan Canyon. When they finished snowmobiling, they came back to find a giant snowman. After that, building a giant snowman in the canyon became an annual event.

"We have a little streak of craziness in us, which evolved into building a giant snowman," said Sorenson's brother, Scott Sorenson. "Every year it had to be bigger than the last year."

Bronson Low, 8, spent most of his Saturday throwing snowballs at the workers since he couldn't climb the ladders. Bronson said he hopes the snowman will last until next winter.

Drivers stopped from both directions to admire the giant snowman Saturday. Logan resident Laura Jensen said she just had to stop and look at what was happening.

"It's just beautiful," Jensen said. "I've never seen a snowman this big."

"It definitely made my head turn and wonder what it was, to the point I had to turn around to stop and take pictures," Logan resident Mike Elder said. "In fact, I got out of my car, put on my coat and gloves and went and helped."

The self-proclaimed "biggest snowman in the state" can be found just past the Tony Grove turn-off on the west side of US-89. Additional photos can also be seen on the Logan Canyon Snowman Facebook Page.
