SALT LAKE CITY — Randy Rigby announced Wednesday that he will step down from his role as president of the Utah Jazz at the end of the 2015-16 season after nine years at the helm of the franchise.
"I have decided that after 30 wonderful years with the Utah Jazz and Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment to announce my retirement at the end of this season," Rigby said.
Steve Starks, current president of Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment, will replace Rigby as president of the Utah Jazz. He will also maintain his current role as president of LHMSE.
Rigby will transition into an organizational adviser, according to the franchise.
"For the past year, we have been planning for this transition of leadership and Steve is prepared to take the reins," said Clark Whitworth, CEO of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies. "The Jazz are on solid footing due in part to the vision and passion of Randy through the years."
In the release, Rigby is credited with negotiating the Jazz's TV broadcast rights with ROOT Sports, creating the Jazz's radio network, hiring Dennis Lindsey as the Jazz's general manager, helping with the selection of Quin Snyder as Jazz head coach, working on the purchase of the Jazz's D-League affiliate Idaho Stampede and reinstituting the Utah Jazz Summer League in 2015.
"Randy has had a remarkable career and contributed in so many ways," Gail Miller, owner of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, said in the release. "He has been an excellent representative of the Jazz at the NBA level and in the community."
"Whether it's been the D-League franchise, or the summer league, his footprint has been on the Jazz organization and will continue to be," Snyder told reporters after Wednesday's practice. "I think the world of him."
Since being appointed president of LHMSE division less than a year ago, Starks has been taking an active role in the stewardship of the Utah Jazz organization, attending numerous NBA league meetings representing the franchise.
