SALT LAKE CITY — The co-owner of a longtime home day care in Salt Lake City was sentenced to prison Tuesday for sexually abusing young children under his care.
Third District Judge Keith Kelly sentenced Mark Timothy Nigh, 58, to three concurrent sentences of 25-years-to-life in the Utah State Prison. Nigh was originally charged with nine counts of sodomy on a child and nine counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies. As part of a plea deal, he pleaded guilty to three counts of sodomy on a child and the other charges were dismissed.
Nigh and his wife ran Tammie Nigh Daycare, 1061 W. Briarcliff Ave., for 16 years. Nigh sexually abused at least three young girls, ages 2 and 3, on at least three separate occasions dating back to 2011, according to charging documents.
Before sentencing, a three-page letter dated Nov. 6 and written by Nigh was submitted to the court. In it, Nigh states: "My weakness has caused so much pain for them and their families.

"My spirit is as troubled as it has never been before in my life," he continued in his letter. "I know I need help working through this."
